Privacy Policy

Parallax & Ponder is a free 30-day vocabulary challenge. It has no user accounts, paid plans, payment processing, advertising, or sale of personal information.

This policy explains the limited information used to provide the lessons, remember progress in your browser, understand site traffic and performance, fix problems, prevent abuse, and receive messages. The Terms of Service also apply when you use the site.

1. Information stored in your browser

The site uses browser storage to remember parts of the lesson experience, including:

• audio playback position;
• quiz state and results;
• crossword entries and history;
• practice-module preferences.

A small functional cookie may remember the archive sort order.

This information is stored primarily on your device. It is not connected to an account and is not synchronized across browsers or devices. Clearing browser data may remove it.

2. Information you choose to send

If you send a note through the feedback form, it may include:

• a rating;
• your message;
• whether you want a reply;
• an optional email address;
• the page from which you sent the note.

The message is emailed to the site operator. An email address is optional and is used only when you request a reply.

Lesson quiz and crossword answers are not sent through the feedback form unless you choose to include them in your message.

3. Analytics and technical information

The site uses aggregate analytics to understand which pages are visited and how the site performs. The analytics used by the site do not use cookies.

Like most websites, the site's hosting and security systems may process ordinary technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, referring page, approximate location, timestamps, errors, and security signals.

This information is used to understand traffic, measure performance, fix bugs, and protect the site from abuse.

The site does not use cross-site behavioral advertising, so it does not currently change its behavior in response to browser Do Not Track signals.

4. YouTube and external links

Lessons include embedded YouTube videos. YouTube may use cookies or collect technical information when a video loads or plays.

The site also links to dictionaries and other external websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

5. How information is used and shared

Information is used only as reasonably needed to:

• provide the lessons and practice tools;
• restore browser-local progress;
• receive and answer messages;
• understand aggregate site usage;
• measure performance and fix bugs;
• protect the site against abuse and security problems;
• comply with law and protect legal rights.

Technical information and messages may be processed by service providers that host, secure, measure, and deliver the site. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, security problems, or threats to rights and safety.

Parallax & Ponder does not sell personal information, use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or run third-party advertising trackers.

6. Retention and your choices

Browser-local information remains until it is overwritten, cleared by you, or removed by the browser.

Messages may be kept as reasonably needed to reply, remember corrections, maintain basic records, and protect the site. Service providers keep information according to their own policies.

You can:

• avoid a reply by leaving the feedback email blank;
• remove local lesson state by clearing browser storage;
• use browser controls for embedded media;
• ask about information you submitted directly by emailing the address below.

7. Children and security

Parallax & Ponder is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 should not send personal information through the feedback form.

Reasonable steps are used to protect the site and submitted information, but no website or internet transmission is perfectly secure.

8. Changes and contact

This policy may change as the project and its tools change. The date at the top will be updated when the policy is revised.
